Network Onboarding Revamp

For the past month Matt and I have been working on new onboarding material. Initially it started as a Dev Guild project to provide a funnel for new Dev Guild members to get Greenpilled and contribute. Recognizing the broader potential, we shifted our focus to develop a more Network-centric onboarding flow. Throughout this journey, we hosted conversations and collaborated closely with Stewards and Chapter/Guild members, including the invaluable contributions of Anastasia, Athus, Coi, Izzy, Jade, Lana, Leo, Mekail, Omka, Princewill, Sarah, Tatiana and Wasabi.

Working on the onboarding material highlighted the need for updates across the Charmverse and Discord. So we revamped the Charmverse with a more streamlined structure, making important links more accessible and adding detailed content. On Discord, we updated the onboarding flow, revamped the structure of channels, implemented additional safety measures and archived old channels.

In this update, we’ll explore the enhancements to the onboarding process and the refined structure for Network members and stewards.

New Onboarding Material

To enhance member knowledge about the Network and boost engagement, we developed a three-part onboarding experience called “Taking The Greenpill”.

Greenpill

  • Outlines the history of the podcast and notable episodes

  • Highlights the books: Greenpilled, Exploring MyCofi, ImpactDAOs, Onchain Capital Allocation Handbook and Impact Networks

Greenpill Network

  • Details Network structure with an overview of Chapters and Guilds

  • Provides links to the Chapters/Guilds Charmverse and Twitter pages

  • Shares info on Network grant rounds and the grant training programs for members to run local funding rounds

  • Links to all Network socials, meetings and applications

Join Greenpill Network

  • Provides links to join the Discord, Charmverse and Hub

  • Discord links to assign a Chapter or Guild role

  • Calendar links for both Luma and Google

  • Details requirements and steps to create a Chapter

  • Outlines requirements and steps to start grant round training

  • Embeds the Google calendar giving a monthly overview of meetings

Charmverse Restructure

The Network workspace should be a friendly home and robust source of knowledge. With this vision in mind, we streamlined the Charmverse structure to make navigation easier and incorporated additional learning material.

Pages Updates

  • Uniformity and visual upgrades with Greenpill branding

  • New Home Page with key links to material, socials and events

  • Calendar on home page giving members quick insight on meetings and events

  • Easy navigation with links to parent pages

  • Links to key external resources

  • Outdated pages updated or deleted

Regen Ecosystem

  • New top level page to explore the regen ecosystem outside of Greenpill

  • Page explaining Gitcoin’s Grant Rounds, Grants Stack, Allo Protocol and Gitcoin Passport

  • Learning material for key regen tech such as Hypercerts and Attestations

Discord Makeover

Being the home for conversations in the Network, we wanted to upgrade the design and address some issues when it came to onboarding and spam. To boost engagement and conversation, we setup Discord’s native onboarding and safety rules while restructuring the server, archiving old channels and creating new ones.

We are actively engaging with the Discord admins to finish updates. Pending aspects are noted in the “Future Plans” section below.

Onboarding Flow

  • Shift away from bots to a Discord native onboarding flow

  • New joining server flow with a few questions for role selection

  • Members can select their Chapter and/or Guilds in “Channels & Roles”

  • Members now have tasks to complete once joining the server such as introducing yourself and saying GM

Safety and Moderation

  • AutoMod rules for spamming enabled to protect the server

  • More moderators added to quickly address spam

Channel Restructure

  • Old channels with low engagement are archived

  • New channel to listen to music, get regen tips and hangout

Looking ahead to the future there are some exciting things being worked on coming soon. One of the highlights are Pods, which are Discord channels centered around a regen topic such as the environment and curated by active people in those ecosystems.

Pod Channels

  • New Discord channels centered around regen topics like education, environment, DeSci and funding mechanisms

  • Provides members a space to converse and collaborate if Guilds or Chapters don’t fit their needs

  • Each pod is moderated and energized by Greenpill members with expertise or knowledge in the relevant topic

  • A bot will be integrated into the channels to share relevant news and updates on the topics

Discord Updates

  • Polish new onboarding flow, adding all Chapters and details for Guilds

  • Incorporate more sybil resistance mechanisms to minimize spam

  • Update Server guide with key Network resources and Discord guidelines

  • Put important links such as the Hub, Charmverse, Meeting Calendar and Twitter in the links channel

  • Add links to top of channels providing easy access to relevant resources

  • Launch Regen News channel to help members stay up to date with regen activity and grant rounds

Bot Integrations

  • Sunset Discord bots no longer needed like Carl and Zira to avoid issues such as “introduce yourself in unknown”

  • Integrate automatic posting of podcasts, events, hub topics and tweets across Discord and Telegram

  • Notify stewards when a member assigns their Chapter as role on Discord

  • Add the Snapshot bot to enable onchain polls in Discord

  • Set up Music bot to play music 24/7 in new music channel

Charmverse

  • Create more applications for Network actions such as becoming a member

  • Expand the Regen Ecosystem page with more learning material sourcing from other regen and education communities

  • Create a new structure and template for Chapter and Guilds to use for their workspace

  • Tap into Charmverse’s token gated features and onchain credentials

We want to conclude this update with an optimistic view for the future of the Network. The effort of putting together this material with members and stewards highlights the activity within Greenpill that often goes unnoticed and underutilized This energy, when properly channeled and nurtured, can make an enormous impact.

In the coming months, we will participate in conversations aimed at revitalizing and establishing a healthy Network structure. Once again, thanks to all who contributed to this Network Onboarding Revamp.

Still a lot to do but looking good!

The Regen Ecosystem page is pretty barebones as an offshoot from the new onboarding materials but things are coming together. Have had some initial conversations with people from Greenpill, MetaGame and Education DAO about aggregating resources to map public goods across the space, including funding protocols/mechanisms, tooling, DAOs/organizations, information sources, etc.

If anybody is familiar with projects that have a similar scope, or if you’re interested in working on this, please get in touch. Feel free to info dump. Will share an expanded appendix by Mid-August.
