Greenpill Improvement Proposal Template

Proposal types

There are three types of GIPs: Impact Initiatives, Protocol Amendment, Chapter/Guild Initiatives:

  • Impact Initiatives are proposals for any project initiative that one would like other chapters to do. This would accompany any proof of concept that exists.
  • Protocol Amendment proposals are to attempt a change in the current protocol/structure of the network.
  • Chapter/Guild Initiatives are proposals that either explain ongoing initiatives, or an attempt to initiate an activity.

See Pre-constitutional structure for further details.

Proposal structure

Greenpill Network encourages proposers to include the following sections within Greenpill Improvement Proposals:

  • Abstract - Two or three sentences that summarize the GIP.
  • Motivation - A statement on why the Greenpill Network should implement the GIP.
  • Rationale - An explanation of how the GIP aligns with the Greenpill values or the public goods space as a whole.
  • Key Terms - Definitions of any terms within the proposal that are unique to the proposal, new to the Arbitrum community, and/or industry-specific. This section is optional, but recommended.
  • Specifications - A detailed breakdown of the tools and resources needed to implement. This is where you can elaborate on the “why” of your design decisions. You can also use this section to describe alternate designs that were considered and related work, e.g. how similar specifications have been successfully (or unsuccessfully).
  • Steps to Implement - The end to end steps to implement the GIP, including associated costs, manpower, and other resources for each step where applicable.
  • Timeline - Relevant timing details, including but not limited to start date, milestones, and completion dates.
